The three pictures I have taken of are the normal camera then the scope with the IR iluminater on and the last with just the normal scope. The picture quality is alright and has 4X zoom which is not adjustable. The depth of field is not the greatest but has a very wide range so you can adjust it to see better up close or something farther away. To do this you need to turn both the front adjuster and back adjuster. The front one is broader so it can take you from far range to close range quick but you need to use the back one to get it perfect. This scope comes with a case, cap, wipe, and manual. This scope is not meant for pitch black, it does need some ambient light but the ilumanator makes it much brighter. The cap has a pinhole so you can look through it even with the cap on. It take 2 AAA batteries which are included so it can be turned on right away. It only has 2 buttons one is for OFF/ON and the other is for the Ilumanator. It also turns off gradually so don’t worry if it doesn’t instantly go black when you turn it off.

real Canadian: I bought this to view night time wildlife and check my property at night. It's fairly useless on both counts. Animals and people can see the red light from the infrared bulb - and you have to have that on to see anything. The field of view is far too narrow to walk around with and see where you're going. Trying to focus on a moving subject is very difficult, so it's only useful for stationary objects, like someone trying to hide. But with that red light, he'll see me before I see him. It's pointless.

Ron Zarecor: At first I wasn't sure I wanted to even give it a try but if it wasn't wasn't what I was hoping for I could always send it back I was excited when it arrived and promptly took it out to the country away from the city lights and turned it on without the IR and I was very impressed with how well I could see I could see some movement about 80 yards away so I turned on the IR and could see a pair of racoons getting into a garbage can and scanned the area and could see a few deer about 125 yards away I was blown away with how well it worked and how easy it was to use if your looking for a low cost night vision unit that really works and works well you can't go wrong with this unit and the price is a plus too you won't be sorry I'm going to purchase a couple more units before the price go's up Sincerely Ron Z.

Mike Bartolo: I use this night vision for around my camp at night where there is no artificial light that could dammage the gen 1 tube. Crystal clear vision once you focus the analog sights. Great product worth the price but I bought a cheaper pair of digital night vision for guests for simplicity. The IR illumination is sufficient in my opinion.

STu: It's a functional night vision monocular. Honestly not sure what generation the tube in the thing is, but the compact size and being able to work off of 2 AAA batteries (not sure why other reviews keep saying AA) says its not a first generation one.
Should also note, this is not the typical IR camera with a screen, that is basically a cheap dash cam in a binocular shaped housing, that you usually see at this price range.
I believe that the remarks about not being able to get the picture focused is the result of people living in a world where everything has auto focus on it. If you understand that the ocular lens in front of your eye needs to be adjusted along with the objective lens, you will not have a problem.
Only thing I don't like is the field of view is very narrow. A 1.5x magnification version with a wider field of view would suit my needs much better, since I really want to see things at a distance that doesn't need 4x magnification.

Marc-André Fiset: La lunette est légère.
L'éclairage infrarouge est presque obligatoire.
J'ai été étonnée d'observer les étoiles avec.
Pour le prix j'en suis satisfait.

Mike McDonald: Anyone saying the image is blocky or blury are not adjusting the correct turning piece. Turn the piece right against your eye, not the big part at the other end, yes you can turn that too, after you have set the eye piece.
The images is perfectly clear, I thought I had a bad one until I learned how to use it. I side mounted it on my M4 with a tripod to picatinny adapter I purchased on amazon as well.
This is going to great to spot enemies during airsoft matches, the 4x zoom is perfect for airsoft distances and my gun will already be pointing at the enemy, I just need to fire.
The people who say "Don't buy Gen 1 Night Vision" are just spouting what they have heard and haven't tried it, let alone own their own.. this is a great product.

K.C.: Purchased a similar Yukon model in 2013 on sale for $159. This model is an updated version. Keeping in mind the limitations of Gen I Night Vision with a built in IR illuminator, this unit is outstanding! Purchased "Used as New" from Amason for less than $80! The box was dented but never opened! Worked fine first try.
Two AA instead of CR 123 batteries is a plus. The picture is a bit less grainy than the Yukon, which still performs well. I purchased a more powerful, hand-held, IR illuminator for those cloudy nights with no moon or starlight. The built-in IR is excellent for "big back yard" ranges. It stays aligned wth the lens.
Remember to focus the front lens, then fine tune with the rear lens. When you extend or reduce the viewing range, adjust the front lens, then fine tune the rear again. Soon, you won't have to re-focus much. I picked an average range and used "White-out" to mark the body and the front focus ring with two aligned dots. That way and I always have a good start focus. The front ring is easy to turn when taking the unit out of the case or when carrying it. So marking the body gets you started quicker.
I think most low ratings are a result of too high...

Amazon Customer: I expected this scope not to be particularly impressive when I bought it, since serious night-vision gear tends to cost thousands of dollars, and this one is dramatically more affordable. I wasn't disappointed. The night vision tube itself isn't actually as bad as I was expecting, but the scope compensates for that by having really terrible optics, especially on the eyepiece. I get it - large, short-focal-length lenses are tricky to make - but the image quality on this thing is so bad that I can usually see things better with my unaided eyes than I can with the scope if there's any kind of moonlight present, even with the scope's magnification.
I can see this thing being useful in a pinch if you're in a really dark place and need to see something that might be hiding in the shadows - with the IR illuminator, it feels kind of like using a big green spotlight that only you can see, which is kind of neat. I've used it to check to make sure there were no critters hiding inside a culvert before I crawled inside, and to watch beavers on the river near here during the night, so it does have its uses. I just don't think it's as versatile as I was hoping it would be, though, and its...
