Recomendable 100%

Dotguy: One of the best guide books for advice that I have come across. We are driving for a week in Namibia and this is all we need to guide us around the country.

Redfred:
Almost certainly the best guide book on Namibia - the author is an expert on the country and well-respected in the travel trade within Namibia as being a good guy. (He also heads Expert Africa, which put together a good itinerary for us, and is more commercially independent than some agencies.) The book worked extremely well for our 17 day trip, and I would thoroughly recommend, along with a decent road map. There aren't many roads - you will struggle to get lost!
My only beef is that everyone writes up Swakopmund as being a great place to visit - and you almost certainly will end up there on any tour of the country - but our reality was that any semblance of colonial German architecture was very hard to find. It's a good place to re-stock, re-fuel, get some admin done like doctor, post office, bank, but not much of a holiday destination in itself. However the nearby trips, which are well marketed in any hotel, are worth doing - e.g. Walvis Bay boat tour, quad biking in the dunes, and a host of others depending on your taste for adrenalin or nature.

A shopper:
Given all the reviews that said the Kindle edition had bugs/problems, I was a bit worried about my decision to purchase on Kindle. But I didn't want the paperback version.
I am happy to report that:
All the maps are easy to expand and view in as much detail as you like (at least 5 out of the 5 maps I have tested so far..)
The indexes appear to be accurate & fully functioning.
I tested a "bookmark" and it worked just fine & dandy.
I tested this on an iPad mini, a fairly "old" version, and also on a fairly new iPhone. Bookmarks were "shared" quite well between the iPad and the iPhone. Both of these use the Kindle app.
My conclusion is that the Kindle complaints were probably not the book itself, but something wrong with the Kindle platform and its compatibility with the device being used. If other books work well on Kindle for you, this one will probably also work just fine.
My five star rating is based on the technology, I have not yet really dug into the book; but my opinion so far on the actual content lines up with the opinions of all the other reviewers here.

Nansierra: I wrote an earlier review complaining about missing information in this book. While traveling, I discovered that the information was there but the formatting on Kindle is very awkward to use. I couldn't, for example, flip back and forth between open pages. The TOC would be far more helpful if it were more detailed. The alternatives is paging through a section from the beginning. Other than such issues, the book was genuinely helpful with very detailed information about where to go/how to get there. Definitely the go-to book for traveling in wonderful Namibia.
