themullet: Great childrens book series to read aloud. The chapters are short and easy for kids to digest. So far most of the books have had around 10-13 chapters and a chapter can be read to them in about 5-6 minutes. The stories all also have enough of a hook to keep the kids interested. My 7 year old son and I are currently on book 5 and he loves them.
Definitely recommend for young readers.

Christine Broesenhuber: another adorable book by Osborne. What my kids really like about these books isn't only that they give an insight into a different world/history but also that it sparks their interest, which leads to further questions.

organization queen: My oldest son is now 18, and when he was a little guy, in grade school, we began collecting this series. It was one of his favorites to read on his own. He eventually outgrew them at around the 17th book, and with time they were packed away and forgotten about. Fast forward to last winter, when I was going through old boxes and organizing and came across them again. My younger son, who was then 4, loves to be read to but his taste is a bit on the older side as he has 3 older siblings who are in their teens. I grabbed book one and made the first 3 chapters his bedtime reading that night. He couldn't wait for more! So we are now working our way through this wonderful series, and I am collecting the 33 books that have been published since my older son stopped collecting them. I like how Osborne leaves has not dated the books and locked them into a certain decade in time, so that they may be enjoyed by children for many years to come. This is a GREAT series to read to your little one and share! The quests that the kids in the stories must fulfill are grouped into missions covering 4-5 books, and as we start each new book I like to review with my son, who is now 5, what each preceding...

Julie H.: My son and I are reading this series together and we both look forward to it each night. Mary Pope Osborn has done an amazing job of mixing real world facts into adventure fiction books. Many children (2nd - 3rd grade) read these on their own. While they are just the right reading level for 7 to 9 year old kids, we have found many jump off points for enriching conversation. Besides, she has me hooked too! The only recommendation I have about her books is that they should be read in groups of 4. Each book can stand alone but Jack and Annie, the main characters, are sent on missions that span a 4 book series.

J. Braun: My son absolutely adores this series. He just turned 7. I still am reading the stories to him, but he can pick up some words and phrases as I read to him. We read the series in order and now are beginnning to reread them.
This story can be read individually, but I recommend reading the earlier ones to get to know the characters. Jack and Annie are very likeable. They try to achieve their goal with the assistance of clues given to them by the magician Merlin. It is good for problem solving and also has alot of educational tidbits.
