Emgo 72-32440 Luggage Storage Trunk - Perfect for Travel and Vacation

TomTom: I'm giving 4 stars, but I never installed it and I am returning it. I was bummed it didn't work for me.

Pros:

I was actually pleasantly surprised by the sturdiness of this case. The plastic was thicker and stronger than I anticipated. The mounting bracket is plastic, but thick and strong. The hardware seemed sufficient, but I can't say any more on that since I never even installed it.

Function was good. The lock and latch seemed to work well. It looked pretty good.

Cons:

It's too small. It would fit a full face helmet, but not one with a peak. I wanted to store a dual sport helmet with a peak, but it wouldn't fit. It needs to be just 1 inch taller and maybe 2 inches longer to be perfect. The lid was so close to closing, but would have put pressure on the peak of my helmet to latch. That's a no go for me. The listed dimensions are maximums, and it is not square.

There is a big lump in the bottom of the case where the case latches onto the mounting bracket. It's a minor thing, but it doesn't allow a helmet to rest flat in the bottom.

It would be difficult to fit on a KLR650 rack. It may be possible, but you would have to drill extra...

E. L. Green: First of all, this is a fairly small top box, smaller than it appears in the picture. It'll hold one helmet, maybe, and that's it. That's okay with me, my bike is a Kawasaki Versys-X 300, which is a fairly small bike, and the scale of this box fits well with the little buzz bomber. But make sure it's big enough for your needs.

Second of all: Expect to need to drill some holes in the mounting plate to make it fit. For my Versys-X I had to slot the two rear holes towards the outside to match the holes in the luggage rack, and had to drill two entirely new holes at the front to match the holes in the front of the luggage rack. I've heard that people with other Kawasaki motorcycles like the KLR-650 have the same problem. So that's another star taken off.

Durability wise, it's clearly cheap plastic, and the "tongue" that holds the box closed is pretty flimsy and I've heard of people breaking it off. I'd say it's about as durable as you can expect for the price. Note that I had some expensive Givi luggage shear off the tongue before so merely paying $$$ doesn't make you immune, but the plastic of this tongue is clearly inferior to the Givi plastic.

Rick MillerRick Miller: I took a chance on this as you can see from my photos, I don't think this was designed for my bike's configuration, but still works.
As you can see from my photos, I have both a sissy bar and a tubular steel luggage rack that curves up at the rear. Both presented issues for the mounting plate that I'm satisfied I was able work around. First with the Sissy bar, in order to open the lid when mounted I needed to move the mounting plate as far to the rear as I felt I could and still secure it, which also restricted how far forward I could place the other bracket. Then with the luggage rack that curves up, I placed the screws for the mounting plate just inside the end of the luggage rack that will keep it from slipping to the rear which would cause a complete failure of the bracket. By carefully choosing the location of the mounting screws I was able to secure the mounting plate to my satisfaction and recently road tested on a 300 mile trip with no issues at all. I will check this often to make sure things remain tight but so far it has.

As for space, and as others have noted, it holds my helment and a bit more "stuff", or optionally lots of other "stuff". I wanted this box...
