Richard R. Stenton: This book looks closely at the life of Hamilton and his family. It describes his passion to preserve the Union and form a strong and lasting country. He is fought by those in the southern states who want to preserve slavery and state's rights which would have doomed the USA. He built a strong bank system and worked to make sure the Union prevail. He was a war hero and with one slip of wandering, he was a loving family man. His pride and beliefs ended up with his death in a duel.

Jinxsmom: This book was an enjoyable read. It is the story of both Alexander and Eliza Hamilton and their lifelong love affair that took place against the backdrop of the American revolution and the birth of America.
You will come to appreciate the debt this country owes him. Since he was outlived by many of his enemies history did not give credit where credit was do. Hamilton was the architect of our banking system and treasury department. In fact much of what we take for granted in our federal government evolved from his ideas. Without Hamilton this country may not have survived to become the union of states we have today.
The book is not just about the public man but also his private side. He was a devoted father and husband. He was also a loyal friend. In this book we get to learn about his childhood in St. Croix and his years studying in America prior to the revolution. We get a glimpse into the forces and circumstances that formed the man.
Though not as detailed as My Dear Hamilton it is still a thorough fictional bio. If you read no other book on Hamilton you will get a good understanding of the man and his times.

Eirlys king: How anyone could describe this as a bodice ripper is a mystery. The story requires that a sexual scandal is explored and an attempt made to understand why it happened. I think this is well handled. The novel is a good page turner though 'My dear Hamilton' provides a fuller account.

Sue Gaskin: I wanted to learn more about the life of Alexander Hamilton after seeing the fantastic musical in Chicago - I achieved this plus was enchanted by the story of the devotion of his beloved wife. What a story and told in such a way that made history come alive! I loved this book.

Katrina: The author has written a wonderful novel that takes us back to the era of the start of America as a nation and uses Alexander Hamilton's life as a thread woven through history. If you enjoy reading the story behind some of history's events this is the book to read.

Carole P. Roman: Prior to seeing the musical, I had a hazy idea that Hamilton was not in the "boys club" that became the founding fathers. After all, he was never elected President. The Broadway show made me curious and four books later, I have to say how much I enjoyed Cobb's novel.
Solid and unpretentious, The Hamilton Affair humanizes all the key players. The games of politics were as dirty then as it is now.
I especially loved reading about the Hamiton's at home, his devotion to the family, as well as his daring role in the revolution. His courage and passion in all parts of his life, make Hamilton truly larger than life.
The book gives the reader a rudimentary snapshot of life during the Revolutionary War. Family sacrifices, like Eliza's father and mother, the Schuyler's and Washington's are described, bringing new meaning to the fight for liberty.
In the states, we learned about the Revolution, the stories about Valley Forge, the different battles, British soldiers taking over the local homes, but it is taught by rote and equally flat. The giant undertaking of breaking with the mother country, risking everything one hold's dear, the extreme chutzpah to demand independence and...

crazycat 09: I really didn't expect to like this book. I thought I would learn a little history along with a boring love affair. It was not so It's so much more than a love story. I did learn quite a bit about the revolutionary war between the Americans and Britain but what I found so incredibly interesting was what happened after the war. Hamilton was an extraordinary man who layed the framework for the current economic system we have today, and he took a lot of heat for it as well. If we think that today's politics is dirtyand scandulous, then you're in for a treat as it was ten times worse during the years leading up to the constitution and beyond. Hate, evil and petty jealousies are rife throughout the time period, just as they are today but thank God they dropped duelling as a way to solve their problems!! Hamilton is portrayed with all his flaws and his wife Elizabeth (Betsey) is a wonderful match, fiesty and wise. Read this book. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Alma: I've been a fan of Hamilton's from my teens (about 20 years). It took maturity to appreciate and understand why he was such an important figure in America. Its blossomed through my teens, with the connection to the West Indies (I'm also West Indian), the connection to New Jersey and New York. I'm also a Capricorn, and this book clearly picks up on the aspects of a Capricorn - hard working, a long range view, unafraid of making enemies for the ultimate goal, and an interest in law and justice. Ms. Cobb did a wonderful job putting together his life with Eliza and humanizing the men who built this country. Ajax, the free black man, that is close friends with Hamilton in the book, is fictional, but I did appreciate his presence because it explained the complexity of slavery in the northern states, who to this day, pride themselves as abolishing slavery early, but slaves did have a part in the building of this nation, and blacks were very much involved in the american revolution and did build this country from the beginning- that story weaved in, is amazing. I did not put the book down since buying it 3 days ago. As a Hamilton student, it was still refreshing to read this story, which...
