Melu2017: Dieses Buch hat kompakte Maße und ist innen wie außen sehr ansprechend gestaltet. Besonders fällt der schwarzweiß-gestreifte Buchrücken mit dem dezent in Gold geprägten Buchtitel auf.

Für mich hat es sich damit aber leider schon ziemlich erledigt. Der vorgestellte Stil ist konservativ und in meinen Augen recht überfrachtet. Da ich 20 Jahre in den USA gelebt habe, bin ich damit gut vertraut und dachte eigentlich, auch dort hätte es inzwischen Entwicklungen gegeben, hin zu mehr Leichtigkeit und Geradlinigkeit. Leider aber erinnert mich dieses Buch stark an die amerikanischen Einrichtungsbücher der 90er: gedeckte Farben zuhauf und generell viel zu viele Accessoires.

Das auf dem Deckel abgedruckte Zitat von Jonathan Adler, wo von "glamour, wit and inspiration" die Rede ist, erstaunt mich: Ich finde, alle drei Begriffe sind stark unterrepräsentiert im Buch. Gerade mit dem zwar oft übertriebenen, aber immer treffsicheren und hochdynamischen Stil Jonathan Adlers kann Erin Gates gar nicht mithalten, sondern sie befindet sich mit ihrem Ansatz auf einer konventionellen, etwas altmodischen, formellen und ddurch eben auch langweiligen Ebene. G. Laws: If, like me, you are buying for an Interior Designer friend, then good luck. Being a middle-aged single man, if it's not black or silver, that's as far as my house design aspirations reach. The book itself is smaller than I was expecting. The pictures made me think it would be a large-format coffee table book, but in reality the book is slightly smaller than A4 size. It is beautifully made and full of very high quality photographs, on quality paper. I have no interior design skills what-so-ever, so many of the room designs are not my cup of tea, but they are certainly idea creating. I never knew there were so many styles of sofa (laughs). The author's writings are both informative and humorous. If you do know someone with a more creative mind, and a leaning towards home design, I am sure they would appreciate this book, if only to see what is achievable with different furniture and materials. Just prepare yourself for the 'leopard skin staircase'. Also, the book does show the dollar price on the back cover of $37.50 (£30.60)
