Daniel: I got these to haul kayaks and they do the job. The included straps aren't the best, but they work. I don't know how they sell a 2 pack so cheap, but I'm not complaining. They are ready to install and remove and stay secure once they are tightened down. The rubber pads keep my kayaks from getting scuffed and scratched on trips.

addicted to gardening: Assembl I ngbthese had been indicated as being very difficult in many of the reviews. I found if I put soapy water in the holes before the bolts, they definitely slipped in MUCH easier than dry. The first couple of bolts I did dry and they took at least 30 minutes to force into the holes and aligning them was difficult at best. There may have been a few tears shed. So, I sat there looking at them and had an epiphany......... when we were kids changing flat tires, I remember always using some soapy water to get the tires back on the rims. Tried adding soapy water on the super tight tirelike holes and each on slipped in much much more easily. 2 in 30 min dry, 14 with soapy water 10 minutes. Lesson learned. The quality of the kayaks carriers appears to be very good and they were very sturdy on the roof of the traverse. We took kayaks out and my daughter will use them on her jeep for both kayaks and SUPs. Great deal for a great product. Very happy. Oh and the straps do work well if you are used to this type of mechanism but I can see where small ratcheting straps could be desireable......

Amazon Customer: So far we they seem to work, the straps that came with them though are way to short for how I tie up my Kayak properly. So I couldn't test the durability of the straps. For the price I paid for these I'm not going to complain.

anon: The product is easy to assemble but the installation leaves somrthing to be desired.
The nylock nut (M8-1.25) does not easily accomodate the actual 8mm nut (round nylock, hexagonal nut) that, ultimately, tightens the carrier on to the car.
As a result, on at least 3 of these nylock nuts, I have had to use a pipe spanner to tighten then sufficiently to hold the carrier in place.

Caitlyn bailey: I live by myself I was trying to put these racks together today and I ran into a conundrum with one of them that just will not snap I've tried everything I can think of but it's just not able to be put together. Plus it doesnt fit my crossbars so i have to rig it to have it work. I did have to rig one of them but they do work well once i was able to put them all together just took me awhile. From one to three stars.

Glades: I’m very happy with these. They are strong and well designed. I will have to modify the mounting brackets tho as I’m mounting them to rectangular cross bars. The tie downs work ok but get lose over time.

John: Not bad for the price. Fairly easy to assemble, directions weren't much help but it was simple to figure out. I would not recommend using the straps that came with the rack, they do not stay tight, had to pull over 5 different times to snug the straps tight and I only drove about 30 miles with a top speed of 50 mph. Definitely recommend getting a good set of actual ratchet straps. My cross bars are flat and the bottom bracket is rounded so I had my doubts about the rack staying tight to the bars but so far so good, time will tell.

MeeshMeesh: So, first off the directions are horrible and grainy, but I figured it out by grouping everything and thinking it through (I’ll attach photo so you can decide the difficulty yourself). The screws fit the holes, I didn’t need to do anything to adjust them- it just took a a while to tighten properly because you have to get the screws pushed ALL the way in the tighter or else the screw just twists with the bolt. I would suggest doing this but using a rubber mallet to hit the top of the screw down, because it’s a big pain in the butt when you actually have it mounted (which is what I did). You’ll probably want a wrench to do this, as no tools are provided (two different sized bolts).

That’s said, we had our first outing with these J bars AND used the included straps (we have crank ones but they seemed a little excessive for what we needed). Absolutely no issues with the kayaks, although we did only travel about 10 miles. They are easy to use, just make sure ALL the screws are tight.

Overall, I’m am happy with this purchase! They will do great and are affordable. I might want to save up for ones that collapse, but given Covid and how I almost never drive, I...
