Nolan P.: This is the best cookbook I've ever had. The recipes are incredible! And the book itself is beautifully made with excellent calligraphy. I have made a number of the desserts and I find the cakes to be without equal.
The casseroles are quite tasty. The recipe instructions are easy to follow.

Anonymous: Edited to add: I've already been through several recipes and every single one has come out perfectly. Exactly what you'd expect. Good, home-cooked food that reminds you of how life used to be. This really is the best cookbook I've EVER used. I want to give one to every single person in my family!

An excellent cookbook you won't find in modern times. There were recipes that were made for me by family that I'd long forgotten. Simple, delicious from scratch staple recipes that can keep you going for years! I actually picked up my copy for free at a giveabook / takeabook corner box and loved it so much I bought a used copy here from Amazon for my sister. I can't wait until she gets it!

Lisa Reichwein McSain: This is a compilation of the chapters from the original pamphlet cookbooks that were published many years ago named for instance, 'Salads from Amish and Mennonite Kitchens', and of which I was missing three. Since I have cooked from these many separate books since the 1980's and my girls are growing up ~ (Imagine that!) ~ I wanted to have one complete source that celebrate a part of our family food history and heritage. This book has them all, along with country wisdom, and practical advice regarding the foods you're cooking. There's something for everyone, too!

Phoebe: As an (unwillingly) transplanted PA German, I missed the foods my mother and grandmother used to make. This cookbook brings it all back with easy-to-make recipes that turn out the way they're supposed to. Unfortunately, some recipes are designed to feed a multitude (as in "take one bushel" of something), and it would have been nice to have had them adapted for cooks with smaller families. That aside, I turn to this cookbook regularly and always find something tasty to make. One thing I've noticed, though, is that just about every recipe seems to call for flour, butter, or sugar--or all three--the delicious backbone of PA German cooking. Enjoy!
