Amazon Customer: Twists and turns never ends in this series. I'm looking forward to spend time in Buryoku and learn more about it's secrets. It's fast paced with well developed characters with lots of intrigue.

Justin Deslauriers: In the next step along on the path, Darkness is a fitting installment in the series. If the last review I left and the following results were anything to go by, I would say that the next book after book 8 may end being even longer. Here’s to hoping that comes true.

P.S. if the author reads this review this is a reminder to take care of yourself. Overextending oneself is a path to failure, something you obviously know going off of your writing. We all need to be reminded of things we already know sometimes, speaking from experience.

Scott Belcourt: I liked this book as a filler in the series, but as a standalone story, I felt a bit underwhelmed. I was expecting more detail on the progression of the characters and the different sub-plots being woven together. It felt very rushed, with details being skipped over, revealed at the end, or left unresolved for later books.

Aika has inexplicable pain, and at the end of the book we find out she took a fragment of another power into herself? Roy experiences a challenge, doesn't know what to do, comes to the end of training without finding a solution, and BAM, suddenly he figures it out with either scant explanation or someone practically hands him the keys to it? And the big hit he gave out near the end wasn't even his, it was from a demon that latched itself onto him? Why wasn't his beast core sufficient? Or even his own progression? That random scion is thrown in to fight a monster at the beginning and just happens to power-level it right at the end? Plus all the grandstand posturing of both sides for short-term plot conflict's sake, which rang hollow to me.

It's much easier to nitpick than to create, so to balance it out a bit, some of the things I loved: Roy's...

DJ Johnson: Now we getting to the good stuff of the series there is sooo much to unpack here!

So much hype with lots of revelations, action, more new enemies to compete against, and a awesome antagonist for this arc that actually doesn't want to do anything underhanded and wants to truly compete with someone on his level (shocker I know not a young master to trash sadly).

This book starts strong and ends strong there is no point where I felt this book drag previous book def set up for this awesome arc!
