Okay, the plastic strips you get with it are pretty heavy and stiff, if you like picks like that or play bass, they’re fine, but myself, I’ve fell in love with the cutter and find all kinds of random stuff that hits the recycle bin that make great picks, try the plastic cover sheets on paper notebooks, try the flat side of large detergent bottles , even the clear plastic used in most random product , blister packaging. Finish the edges with the supplied file or pick up a package of Emory boards . I’ve even used old ID and credit cards, pretty cool to have a pic with my Drivers license photo on it or a pick with a gold scanner chip. My niece laminates dried flowers from the lawn between two really thin ones. They’re beautiful!
Have fun, and oh, for beginner musicians , it makes an awesome stocking stuffer. ✌🏾

Susan: My 14 y/o grandson decided to take up the guitar this past year and I was wracking my brain on what to get him for Christmas that he didn't already have. My daughter recommended this product and he loves it. He's not only been making picks for himself but several of his friends at school. He made his debut as the only freshman band member to ever play a rock solo at the Homecoming game this year - all played with the pick made from this kit. Very durable and fun.

Cindy: You do have to use your muscles to push it down. It makes nice guitar picks or you could put holes in them and make jewelry. I love it!

E.M.: Bought this for my teen grandson and he loves it. He found every expired gift or credit card in the house and created unique picks for his friends and himself.

Lee: This unit is built very well and feels like it will last for a very long time. Just received today and punched out 15 picks with not one issue. I used the sand pad shaped like a guitar and picks work very well and good quality. I know many guitar players that will be on this as much cheaper in the long run to make your own.

Credit cards, phone cards and gift cards are typically .75mm thick. The plastic strips that come with this unit are between .7 and .73mm. My ideal (acoustic) guitar pick is a Dunop Tortex .55mm. For $25 I can buy about 150 guitar picks. My problem is that the nicest picks seem to have legs: 'Hey man, you got one of those nice picks I could use?" "Sure. Here's a new variety. Try this one." So, my thought is to create hundreds of cheap picks and make a point of leaving them laying around everywhere for everybody else to steal. LOL Except for guitar weinies like me, very few can tell the difference between a .55 and a .70 guitar pick anyway.
This punch is very well built. . .and you can feel it. Other punches will certainly do the job but I know this one will last a long time. The picks WILL require some sanding. And, I don't think there's a pick punch out there that doesn't leave rough edges.
I'd like to see a variety of these plastic strips offered in various thicknesses.
Just for grins I cut some picks out of that clear clam-shell packing stuff we see on calculators, fishing reels, capos, etc. That stuff is about .41mm and the...

Maria BMaria B: This item is very well made, and can cut through vinyl records with no problem. If you get this item to make your own vinyl record picks, you need to heat it up so the vinyl won’t crack. But other than that I recommend this product! It’s amazing quality, works well, and the picks do not disappoint. It comes with a guitar pick holder, a file, and some sample plastics to work with.
