Zachary Miner: I'm a 3rd year medical student, and I have always been interested in cardiology specifically. Even though I had a relatively large amount of background in heart-related medicine, this book schooled me. Dr. Chizner took very difficult concepts and turned them into fun and digestible lessons. Learning with this book was both fun and educational.

I was especially impressed with the section on electrocardiography. The majority of my background in medicine was as an EKG tech, and even with a decade of daily interpretation, this book still taught me many additional strategies I hadn't considered. It doesn't just teach pattern recognition, but actually hints and pushes readers towards a deeper understanding of the anatomy and the "why" of particular EKG patterns (as well as teaching the clinical diagnosis and treatment strategies as well).

I originally got this book about 4 weeks ago, and I have already read the entire thing. I don't usually enjoy reading (I prefer things like OnlineMedEd), but Dr. Chizner's book marked a notable exception. I truly recommend this book (10/10) for any medical student, not just those considering cardiology.

Amanda Lima: This book is amazing!! I used it to study for my IM shelf because cardio was a section I struggled with and this book helped me tremendously. It clarified so many topics I had trouble with in a very easy way. I was able to do really well on the IM shelf and it helped me get every single cardio question correct (my best section on the shelf). This book has everything you need to know in cardiology, it’s easy to read because it feels like Dr. Chizner is sitting there talking to you. So it doesn’t get boring like a regular med school text book. If you want to learn cardiology in a very easy way that is not boring and do well on the cardio section of the shelf or ace any cardio topic in general then you need this book!! It also made me look good when getting pimped by my cardiologist attending on rotations. Thanks Dr. Chizner for writing this book.
Highly recommend!!

Kira Fordham: I found this very useful as a nursing student working on a cardiology floor and with a strong interest in cardiology. Well-organized into easy-to-use chapters and sections. Very well-rounded and relatively simplified while still being technical enough to keep it compact. It has a goofy cover which is a little unappealing for me, but the content clicks for me so it’s worth it.

Amazon CustomerAmazon Customer: Awesome! I am so excited about this book. I am only on chapter one, but let me tell you, it is exactly what I was looking for.

Here is my story... I am a new nurse practitioner just starting out in cardiology. I have 9 years of experience as a RN; 6 years of critical care (including open heart surgical and post MI pts) and 3 years in home care. While I have some understanding of cardiology, there is so much I have to learn.

I was searching for a book that could bridge the gap from nursing to advanced practice, but not quite MD level. This is IT! All the books I found prior to this were either over my head or geared toward nursing. I was searching for something in the middle.

I took the time to read the About the Author, Foreward, and Preface. I don’t normally, but I am glad I did. It provides a good background of who wrote this book and why, who would have thought.

I hope you find it as beneficial as I have already.

Mateja Lekic: This book is sure to be different from any you come across. It emphasizes a side of medicine that seems to have been forgotten - the old art, the relic stethoscope, the music of the heart, and the human touch. It stresses humanism and patient care - "hands before scans." The book is organized by the five finger approach, which includes the history (the thumb), physical examination, electrocardiogram, x-ray, and additional laboratory testing (the pinkie), which is not by coincidence the smallest finger.

The uniqueness of the book comes from Dr. Chizner's writing style. He approaches challenging topics with simplicity and clarity and describes them to the fullest. This book has all the information you could possibly want on cardiology - how to read electrocardiograms, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, and cardiac catheterization. The newest edition even includes updated guidelines on both hypertension and cholesterol! All these chapters have organized tables, algorithms, and flow charts. For those preparing for boards, there is an amazing cardiovascular pharmacology chapter (antiarrhythmics, antiplatelet agents, etc.). It has drug mechanisms, clinical indications, and side...

cwurld: I am not sure how to rate this. I was looking for something I could read in an afternoon. This is a substantial book. It is 350 8.5x11 pages of small print.

I have read the intro and the first few pages from many chapters. It is well written and very informative. While the concepts are "ridiculously simple" there are lots and lots of them.
