Liberty: I bought this book to give to a friend who is a beginner witch, I had a feeling the book would have cultural appropriation and misinformation in it, in addition to a solid foundation for understanding the holiday. I was right, they mention smudging several times, which is a closed practice, what I think they may have meant was smoke cleansing, also chakras are brought up which are commonly culturally appropriated. At one point the book says to remove all technology from the room you’re doing a spell or ritual, which felt very close minded, technology can be a great tool in spell work, and there are entire crafts around tech magic. The book does contain interesting history, and solid recommendations for Yule rituals and activities, but a lot of it felt like it was thinly veiled Wicca. I’m giving the other copy away annotated, because someone brand new to the craft probably won’t be able to identify what’s witchcraft and what’s a Wiccan belief.

SamanthaSamantha: This is a good book if you know nothing about the Yule Sabbat, Wiccan based. Great History Reference of old and modern celebration, History Reference to the wheel of the year northern and southern, Reference to the Astronomical Cycle of Yule, Good Spells for Covens or not, tarot spreads, recipes, prayers and crafts. In the back of the book it references deities of this time throughout different cultures and other traditions in different cultures if you don't celebrate this date specifically, (northern and southern). ❤️
