Christopher Calabrese: Its tough, and looks good. I have used this on several rifles and rifle parts. For a little faster cure time, slap it in the oven on a low temperature, after letting it do its initial cure of a day or so.

Von RodriguezVon Rodriguez: First off gotta Brownells one of the best spray paints for firearms, airsoft and magfed fed paintball. I used this to paint my handguard for my First Strike T15 magfed paintball marker.

I read some reviews about the nozzle clogging and spitting out blobs of paint. What worked for me was i shook this for about seriously 10 mins yea I timmed it lol. Also I heated the can up till it got warm by dipping it in warm water but be cautious not to put the can in hot water since it can explode. Also every 5 mins of spraying I would re shake the can as well as check the nozzle if I see paint starting to build up I would wipe it with a brush that I dipped in laquer it helped wipe the paint of the nozzle tip and not dry out causing blobs to spit out.

Overall great paint and matches closely to Magpul FDE. Yes it is hard work to maintain and slows tue process down but i prefer to do things slow and steady than fast and silly.

Dean WoodDean Wood: 👎0 stars. This product is garbage. Comes out inconsistent. Leaves a very textured pattern on the product. Sometimes sprays a foam spray of paint and comes out very bubbly. I thoroughly prepped my surface prior to applying. I shook the can vigorously for 10 min before applying. Applied at the rated 70°f - 90°f. The spray would come out as it should for one or two passes then come out in a thick spray and leave a rough texture of paint on the surface. I made sure I wasn't too far from the surface as the paint could possibly dry before hitting the surface. I watched Brownell's instruction video for applying on YouTube. I called Brownell's tech support line and spoke with Matt, their representative who was sure I wasn't shaking the can enough. I spent over an hour trying to remove the paint from the surface and thoroughly cleaned. I then shook the can until anybody using this product would have certainly agreed that the paint was definitely mixed (probably 35+ min of shaking). I tested the paint on a cardboard box with maybe a 10% improvement. I tried a 2nd time applying it to my surface with again a horrible result. I shouldn't have even tried a 2nd time. What a waste. This...

Patrick Gleason: I did a ground-up build on an AR, and I wanted something other than the typical black, so I figured FDE would be a good way to go.

When I ordered the parts, I picked up a lower parts kit with a Magpul stock and pistol grip and decided that I'd give this Aluma Hyde II a shot - it's advertised as Magpul FDE, so I thought that would be my best bet.

For the good - it seems to be very hard and pretty durable - time will tell, but it held up well to my fumbling while doing the assembly. I warmed the can and parts (based on some online tips) so it sprayed evenly, and it seems to have cured well. Would I use it again? Probably - especially since I have a good half of a can left. (I used 2-3 coats - some small areas got a 3rd coat on places where it was a bit thin.)

For the bad. It's not really matte - it's more of a satin finish as a woodworker, I wouldn't characterize it as semi-gloss. It has a bit of a sheen, but it's not really glossy, hence, satin. I can live with that. What did surprise me though is that it' considerably lighter than the Magpul FDE.

I'm not overly upset about that - it's an AR and a functional firearm tool, not a showpiece - so I felt the...

Leann Miller: So I have used this stuff on multiple rifles now. It is durable and strong if cured correctly. When I use it, I will change nozzles on the can after each coat. The nozzles can be bought generically or on Brownells website. The item being sprayed has to be completely clean as well. Brake cleaner works wonders but make sure to wash with dish soap and a tooth brush before hand and spray dry with an air compressor.

Tips when using Alumahyde:

Do no touch before curing. Absolutely do not touch with your hands. Make a plan to cure in an oven or naturally before handling at all. I usually transfer to an oven after letting dry around 30 minutes to an hour.

Buy extra nozzles. Those complaining about it clogging up nozzles are most likely spraying in very cold conditions or not shaking the can enough before using. I have not had any issues and have bought over several years.

If you want to touch up a spot, you can after curing the original coat. You can also sand a spot if there is an imperfection and then touch it up and recure. Just make sure to cure the original coat.

Spray multiple coats: Start with a feather coat that barely covers the item. Then cover...
