Not for cats. The chest piece is too big. I use this on my full grown elderly cat and she walks awkwardly in it. I would say this is for a small dog. She is a slow mover but can easily get her paw out. The top piece is separate and just slides down the sides. I had to sew it on.

My cat actually doesn't mind the harness. It is pretty unescapable and still gives her a lot of freedom of movement. I like that it is adjustable so it can grow with her.

The older your cat, the more time it will take to put it on. That's where the patience comes in. The first time I attempted to put it on, Mittens stretch out on the floor and I had to pick him up. I put it on and before I could tighten it up, he ran in the basement. When I saw him again, he walked past me with it around his hips. I finally won out and got the harness on him and took him outside. I refuse to let him outside without it because I live near a wooded area with racoons and other creatures. My cat does not go out alone. I'm glad I have it because he can explore the backyard but I am with him. But I do advise if you want it, start it at a young age. Mittens is a year old. I should have started him younger. I intend to win this battle.
