Attwood 12V Universal Outlet with Mounting Kit for Marine and RV Applications (11862-6)

Charles R. Newman: I purchased this to add an outlet for the batteries on my RV (trailer) on the battery box. The unit is well made of heavy composite (plastic), and the leads are I believe 16 gauge wire, rather than 18 gauge used on some other outlets. The rubber cap protects the contacts from weather - a good thing for exterior use. I would buy this product again.

Terry Mullett: As easy to install as any thing is in a camper I guess. Construction seems solid. The cover seems unlikely to fall off and get lost to let wasps come in and nest and short it out (yes that's why I needed a replacement). Behind the water resistant boot, which pulls off, the wires go on with disconnect terminals so with a quick trip to Ace hardware I was able to replace them with longer 12 gague leads and make it easier to install and more consistent with my system.

Brian from Alberta: Solid construction, high density ductile plastic housing is sturdy, just the right material, great design for mounting under dash in a boat wherever you need a power outlet. Could be provided with an in line fuse to protect the upstream end..

Willy J: This is a very nice outlet to mount under a dash or, in my case, under an overhead cabinet in my RV. Quality is great. I would advise putting a 10 amp automotive mini-fuse in the circuit however and this unit doesn't come with one in the wiring harness as some do. I needed a couple of 12 volt outlets to charge phones off my RV's battery bank without turning on the 120 volt AC. I just spliced the wiring, with a 10 amp fuse, into the wiring for the 12 volt overhead lights.

I chose these over dedicated USB outlets because I think most of the dedicated USB outlets have a current draw when not in use. With these I can plug the car charges in while needed and have my phone charging while I'm in bed. They have a real good twist lock and whatever plug you put in them won't pop out until you twist it to the right.

BeachbumlouBeachbumlou: I needed a small lighter adapter to install under the dash in a Mini Cooper. There is not a lot of space for accessories so I needed it to be as small as possible. I found this Attwood Marine 12-Volt Power Outlet and from the stock photos it looked like this might work for me.

To my surprise, this item is a little bulkier than what is pictured in the stock photos. Therefore, I am uploaded additional photos so others can get a better feel for the size of this item.

• The overall length from front to back is approximately 3-1/2 inches.
• The Diameter of the barrel is approximately 1-5/8 inches.
• The base of the Surface Mounting bracket is approximately 2-1/4 inches.
• The overall height with Surface Mounting bracket is approximately 2-1/4 inches.
• The length of the connector cables is approximately 9 inches.

This adapter comes apart so it can be installed using the surface mount or flush mounted with the surface mount removed.

The rubber stopper plug can also be removed.

I have not installed this unit yet, but it feels solidly constructed and I assume it will work as expected. I will update this review if I find this not to...

Britster: I has bought 'Attwood Marine 12-Volt Power Outlet' to provide a 12V DC Power Outlet on my XT225 motorcycle that was water resistant.

Whilst I could plug in the 12V Garmin Charger supplied with the Garmin Nuvi 255, this meant I could not charge my WBT-201 GPS Logger at the same time. Also it was also a bit inconvenient having to remove the Garmin Nuvi 255 from 'Arkon GPS032 Handlebar Mount for 3.5 - 4.3-Inch GPS Devices', so I could hook it up to a PC and upload GPS Track Logs to MapSource.

I thought this 'Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro' was very compact and gave 2 x USB outlets to Power/Charge 2 x Devices at the same time.

Whilst the 'Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro' worked perfectly in the 12V Cigar Lighter Socket on a 12V DC Bench PSU, it was not the case in the 'Attwood Marine 12-Volt Power Outlet' that I wired in to the Battery on my XT225. I think it was not quite long enough to reach the Positive terminal of that 'Attwood Marine 12-Volt Power Outlet'?

There is another problem using such USB to Power a Garmin Nuvi GPS Navigator, at least on a Motorcycle being ridden off-road. This is because vibrations/bumps can dislodge the electrical...
