Andre: Looks and feels quality item. Based on comparison with other pH pens very accurate and quick. Easy to read backlit display. If your water is testing in the high 8ts you must purchase the model with the 10 solution for accuracy.
Don't make the same mistake I did and purchase the model without the 10 solution.

James Bee: I've bought a few pH meters for testing my hydroponic solutions over the years. I've had perhaps 4 of the cheaper ones and they've tended to either come broken (e.g. leaked batteries in them) or break within a year, and some have had terrible precision and/or accuracy.

For the above reasons I decided to spend a bit more this time and I've been using this for a few months now and am not only confident with the readings it gives me but am also confident that it'll last for years, so am very happy with the extra money I spent to get this meter.

Mr. Persnickety: This is the most I've ever spent on a ph pen. I'm so glad I bought this Apera pen. I have been watching Doctor Bruce Bugbee online (the guy who also is part of Apera instrument company) , and really admire his vast knowledge of certain vegetation. I figured if anyone could make a ph he could. I was pleasantly surprised! It even adjust automatically for temperature . It came in a very sturdy case with three calibration solutions, and solution for keeping the probe submerged in. Also had a 4 vial stand to keep the perfect amount of ph solutions. My vegetables are really reflecting the accuracy of this pen! Just get you one!

Trevyn: I use this tool for brewing beer as well as for making and fermenting my own hot sauces, kimchi, etc. It is very easy and intuitive to calibrate and use, and extremely reliable when calibrated and used consistently. I do recommend getting the combo kit because the extras are definitely useful, but you can get away without them if you prefer.

Do calibrate before each use--if only for the piece of mind--and pay attention to the manufacturer's storage recommendations, and this will serve you well for a very long time.

Just Another Reviewer: May 29, 2021 Update: After about 10 months of near-daily use, this pen no longer holds calibration. I'm not upset about it as it was precise now and it saw a fair bit of use.

I've been through multiple $10-20 pH pens, none of which would last more than a few dozen uses before they wouldn't hold calibration, couldn't be calibrated, or otherwise failed. As a result, I have been using the drip method of estimating the pH of my nutrient mix. This pH pen comes in a hard case with cut foam for safe storage. Potential point of improvement here is to reorient the pen in the case so it can be stored upright with an OPR solution protecting the probe in the case of longer-term storage.

Calibration was quick and easy even when calibrating to three points. The included "quick start" type insert was laminated which was a great, subtle touch. These units typically get used around water so drops/drips are inevitable but the guide is protected. Also included was a certificate of calibration. My certificate showed that it was calibrated to within +/-0.2, not the advertised +/-0.1. I'm not sure what to trust but at least for my applications, my pH window isn't that tight so 0.1 vs. 0.2...
