lynne egan: An awesome read

Wendy Simon: I just loved the first book Adam wrote and this was just as good if not better! I could only read 2-3 pages a night because I was laughing out loud and didn't want to get evicted and my sides were aching!
My only complaint is that it wasn't longer! I was so sad when I finished it!! Anyone in the field of medicine MUST get this!

Jennifer: He writes about the real world of the NHS and makes rubbish things happening to people hilariously funny , with his amazing sense of humour. Hey! if you can't laugh you will cry.

Definitely worth a read if you have a dark sense of humour.

Carol T.: A good book to read anytime but would be a good Christmas stocking filler.

Mr A Howie: More laugh out loud reminiscences. Best enjoyed after the original “This is going to hurt”, this is a shorter series of diary entries over Christmas and New Year. It includes material omitted from the first on grounds of good taste. So be warned.

sal69: Really enjoyed this book which I read in a couple of hours! Couldn’t put it down. Loved the anecdotes and the authors dry wit. I’d really recommend this to anyone looking for a good laugh

Virginia Pilipovic: Was good but not as excellent as the first book

Aussie: Some of these situations I could picture easily, working in a hospital myself, but seeing it from the perspective of a junior doctor is not only highly entertaining, but an eye-opener as well! Loved it.

Kindle Customer: Interesting and at times funny. I really needed a change of pace so this was perfect. I need to go and read the first book now!

L. J. Roach: If you’ve not read Adam Kay’s first book This is Going to Hurt, may I ask where on Earth you have been?* I have to confess to being nearly two years late to the book myself and had the joy of listening to the audiobook on holiday in June. (*You do not have to read This is Going to Hurt first, but I do generally recommend reading it!).

When I found out Kay had a second book coming out, I was all over it. Despite my pleas to the publisher to let me have a proof, the book gods had decided I was to wait until publication day. So, I did.

It was so worth the wait. As soon as I got in from work I sat myself down with the book and a cup of tea and didn’t stop reading until I’d read every last word. Kay is, without any shadow of a doubt, hilarious. He relays his experiences of his six Christmases as an NHS doctor with so much candour that you feel like he’s talking directly to you.

“Christmas is this pine-scented, tinsel-strewn timeout where, like it or not, everything just… stops. […] And all this is made possible because – thanks to the little baby Jesus – you no longer have to work. Well, most of you don’t. The NHS sadly doesn’t get invited...
