Kevin: I oiled it up with machine oil to soften it and darken it up. Also hoping guts wont stick to it as bad, lol.. the oil i used is just what was in front of me at the time - but I’d suggest neatsfoot oil instead. (I have no idea if theres any downside to the machine oil i used, i just didnt wanna wait till i got home to get normal leather oil). Its a pretty heavy duty swatter. I went for this over a metal handle hoping this wouldnt bend or break like thin metal, and the leather should last forever with normal care (not that i plan to will off a flyswatter). I work outdoors as a lineman for a utility compnay in the northeast of the country, and these lantern flies are everywhere on the utility poles i work on.. i am officially on the hunt. Wasp spray also kills them, but this is a lot easier and less messy.

Ritchie Barclay: I was so frustrated with the regular rubber or plastic flyswatters that only last a couple of seasons.
These work great and last a very long time.

M. Henson: This swatter could crush a prehistoric tarantula. It has a eavy wood handle and double thick leather pad. But WARNING: the picture shows brass rivets but in fact they send screw-in rivets that have thick metal heads. This makes it risky to use this swatter around any electronics because in addition to mashing your bug you might also crack your TV, laptop or phone screen.

Danica PlummerDanica Plummer: Really nice and great gift for my bf, he loved it as the flies were driving us nuts. It works great on the bugs, kills them with ease. A nicer option than plastic ones but the handle did break in half after he used it on a fly. There was a small flaw in the wood that caused a weak point, and I guess the angle he hit the fly at was just right, it wasn’t a super hard smack or anything.
Would potentially give as another gift to give it a shot, maybe would be better with a stronger handle. We both still like it even though it broke. The leather tie on the end also broke off, but we don’t care much about that

ILA: I bought three swatters. One for the kitchen, one for the study, and one for the master bath. These are sturdy and handsome. The plastic variety fall apart too quickly. This rendition will last many swats.
