pdavlin: After all is said and done the structure and stability are good. However, and this is industry wide, I would like to see a more positive fastening system that would NOT allow for any loosening of mounting hardware due to vibration during the ride. A plastic lock nut against a metal plate just doesn't do it for me.

powerrider16powerrider16: Make sure that you either have someone able to help you put your kayak on top of your car, or that you are able to do it solo before you buy these racks. I realized when making sure of this that if my 4-Runner was a little taller, putting my kayak up myself would be nearly impossible.

Starting off with initial impressions, when I unpacked everything it appears to be all decent quality hardware and the tube thickness of the J-Racks themselves appears adequate to me. Speaking of that, don't forget to weigh your kayak(s) and compare it with the recommended load of both these and your crossbars. I have an Old Town Loon 12' which I found weighed 50 pounds so I was not worried about having two similar kayaks on these.

Assembly is pretty straightforward. It is a little not quite as expected so check the directions, however there was one slightly different way that I decided to do it. There are two small rectangular rubber sheet pieces for each J-Rack assembly. These are the ones that keep your crossbars from getting scratched and also help the J-Rack securely attach to your crossbars. John: This is a good product with easy assembly for transporting 2 kayaks. If you already have a roof rack system and just want to transport one kayak, it is easier to just use your vehicles roof rack is what I have realized.

smokey: I like the product. Thi biggest issue which I'm still working on is the mounting bolts supplied aren't long enough for a Billiebars mount. When even recommended by them I had the assumption they would be a quick install. Need longer bolts!

Christopher Wagner: I wanted to use these racks a few times before writing a review. I'm quite satisfied with these, minus Amazon damaging the package enroute (but no bearing on the product or seller itself. A reflection of Amazon's deliver service). When it did finally arrive, it was packaged pretty well and it didn't come damaged or anything like that. The instructions were ok and see what reviewers are saying, but I'm an avid DIYer and was able to figure them out pretty easily. The first hook was a little awkward putting together, but after that, it only took me about 15 minutes to get the other 3 together. My tip for ease of assembly: I used a ratchet and socket set to put it together and tightened snug. The wrench they give you is pretty small and can see why some reviewers say it didn't seem tight after they put it together. I found it in the second package of nuts and bolts after I got the first 2 together but wouldn't of used it anyway since you can't get a lot of torque on the nuts with how small it is. Also, turn the carriage bolt while tightening to make sure it seats into the square holes. It comes out as your turning kinda easily. I feel a lot of reviewers didn't realize that or how...
