C Staton: The plastic seems to be the type that won't crack or shatter. I expect they will last about three or four years in this hot Texas sun. Each planter is large enough to hold about two mature Petunia plants. They drip trays do not attach to the planter and the way the bottom of the planter is constructed I don't think you could bottom water by filling the drip trays. You would have to do some cutting on the planter to bottom water.
