Troy: Like so many before me, I was having an issue with the fire pit staying lit as soon as you let go of the control knob. After ready the "fixes" that were in some reviews, I was still not having any luck, so I contacted the seller.

In short, they said one of the issues may be the thermocouple, and asked me to take it apart and adjust a brass fitting to offset 5mm something something something. Well, guess who had no idea what on earth a thermocouple was? This guy.

Upon doing a quick google search, the first video I stumbled upon walked me through EXACTLY why this fire pit isnt working.

I will sum it up here very briefly, but refer to the video for much more details.

The safety feature in this unit stops the gas from flowing out of the burner if it were to go out. The thermocouple has a "plunger" with a spring behind it, which is attached to a copper wire. The other end of the copper wire is in the fire pit. The heat from the fire heats the copper wire, which in turn turns it into mechanical energy inside the thermocouple. JTM: I'm very glad I purchased this firepit table, but had one problem while assembling it. One of the screws to hold one of the side panels is close to the control mechanism inside the unit, making it extremely difficult to screw in the screw UNLESS you happen to have a very long blade screwdriver. I had to go get one to finish the installation. Also... I replaced the lava rocks right away with separately-purchased glass beads. The warning that comes with the unit about their rocks EXPLODING and warnings in some of the reviews about this are SCARY! I highly recommend the manufacturer stop including those rocks and provide instead glass beads or shards that won't explode. Otherwise very happy with my unit!

Rod of SATX: Reading the reviews, you will see a number of reports of the item not staying lit. Upon assembly, I could not get this to stay lit. It would flame up a bit and then go out. Both the instructions and some of the comments including the Seller refer to pushing the burner level knob in while turning it until it clicks and ignites. In my case I had to learn one more lesson about lighting. Before pushing the knob in, turn the knob away from the "off" position before pushing, turning, and igniting. This opens a valve near the burner that turns the gas on. Then as the Seller and others say, push the knob in and keep the knob pushed after burner ignites for about 30 seconds. There is a valuable post from the Seller indicating that the valve has a safety feature of turning off the gas if it detects there is no flame, i.e., low temperature on the burner. Pushing the knob in after the valve has been turned on overrides the safety feature. Then keeping the knob pushed in to override the safety feature allows the burner to heat up enough to where when you release the knob after about 30 seconds of burning, the burning has heated up and the safety feature detects the heat and does not shut off...
