I have an older home that doesn’t have GFCI plugs on one side, so this was great for getting basic protection for our Christmas lights and inflatables last season. Tripped when it was supposed to and worked all season. I expect it will last for quite some time.

I ordered this to update a garage outlet to GFCI while also improving the convenience of using the outlet thanks to the 3 feet of cord. The cord does measure a full 3 feet long as claimed. The cord is heavy duty and has 12/3 wiring, but the packaging indicates an electrical capacity of only 15 Amps. In my experience, 12 gauge copper wire normally has a 20 Amp capacity. Perhaps this is lower capacity aluminum wire. Perhaps the receptacle isn't rated for 20 amps. Perhaps it is just a conservative specification. Browsing the internet, I found that 12/3 cords often have only a 15 amp rating although some are rated at 20 amps. My best guess is that because the amp rating should fall as the extension cord gets longer, the manufacturer simply uses the same rating for cords of various lengths. In any case, it had no problem handling a 1500W heater and is clearly marked with UL certification. It’s well priced at $28 given the inclusion of the GFCI.
Finally, I was quite surprised to find a May 2023 “best by” sticker on the label (see photo); I think (and hope!) that this was here in error. I’ll revise this item’s rating to 1 star if the cord stops working...
