I own (3) ukes, and I purchased this one as a learner uke for my 9 year old. Compared to another well known model/manufacturer brand that I bought for my 5 year old, this product is excellent! It almost makes me regret my previous purchase, as the sound quality on this uke is great..warm and bright! This is an excellent option for a beginner, and even a more experienced player may appreciate it, too. Give it a try!
