PHYL: The picture is deceiving as to the size of this pad. I have a Golden and he does not fit that well on the pad so I took off one star for misleading picture. I am pleased with this product. When I bought it I knew there would be times I would not be able to get my dog outside as needed. After messing around with placement I finally found a spot that would do. Then it was a matter of time for my BFF to figure out what he was supposed to do with it. I encouraged him when he got close and actually caught him three times and was able to issue an immediate reward. As far as buying a scent I simple used his own. I put paper towels I had used to clean up his urine under the grass part of the pad. He is a smart cookie and understands what I want him to do and is eager to do it. We are very happy with the pad. I particularly like the fact that it cleans up so easily. I do not use a gravel as I don't have the necessary manual dexterity to maneuver the gravel into a disposable bag. I line the pad with a towel, gets smelly sometimes but cleans right up. Rinse it under running water. Out goes the soil and the smell. Thanks to whoever thought up this idea and got it manufactured.

R.K.: Well, I guess it should say "for female dogs only". Although my male dog sometimes pees without hiking his leg in the yard, he insisted on hiking his leg and peeing on the wall on the balcony at the side of this pee pad. I actually bought two of the pads, one of the trays from one I lean against the wall so that if the dog urinates on the side, it will run from the plastic tray leaning against the wall into the potty grass pee pad sitting flat on the ground. This seems to be working pretty well, but at at the cost of two pee pads.
Negative Update: The mat has a thick backing, which holds in most of the urine in the grass mat, rather than most of the urine running into the tray below the grass. It looks like the backing is similar to the backing as a cheap non-slip rug backing. Not much pee does actually make it through the grass carpet to the tray below. But since most of the urine remains in the grass mat, it remains there to dehydrate and smell. And the smell is horrible. The pee, I assume must mix with the chemicals in the rubber-like backing to the grass mat to create a real stench. So cleaning this is quite time consuming and is not simply emptying and washing out the...

Alexandra: i'm glad we went this route before springing for the $250 grass pads. The size is on the small side, so good for smaller dogs. We have a 20 lb pug and this was challenging. The build is a bit cheap, but it really is a "you get what you pay for" kinda deal. We went this route to see if our dog would even use a pee pad on our balcony, and he completely ignored it. Maybe if we had raised him using one things would have been different. There's no drain on the tray, so if it rains you'll have to dump the water somewhere.

Andrea: Potty training a small puppy is hard enough and I really could not have done it without this training patch! It is working so well I am going to order another one! My puppy is only 14 weeks and a small breed and we have had no accidents on the carpet for 5 days now. I do take her in the back yard a lot but she goes on this pad when I am at work and now she is going here and not the carpet when I am home. The second one will be a back up during all these raining days bc I like to hose off outside and dry in the sun (whenever I see the sun again?!), but eventually I will put the second one on the cement side yard when I train her with the doggy door. Highly recommend this patch as the pee pads just get torn and chewed up.

John: Even though our puppy only used this twice, it's a very well designed and constructed product. It is made of three pieces:
- the artificial grass pad
- a drainage mat in the middle
- The bottom mat with raised edges

Like I said, our puppy went pretty much everywhere but on this mat but I don't think it's the fault of the mat. Our puppy would often lay on the grass, even when we left trace amounts of urine on it hoping he would learn. The mat itself worked very well though for number 1 and number 2...but the lack of usage falls squarely on operator error.

If you decide to get this, manage your expectations as 100% of your success with this item is how you train your pet. The product is definitely worth the money but success is not guaranteed.
