We recently took our 4 and 5 year olds on our first camping trip as a family. Yes, we’re only 4 people and I ordered an 11-person tent. I tend to be an “over-packer” and also wanted to make sure there was extra space. We camped at the beach, so we used the front room for our bins of stuff, and as a place to get all the sand off our feet before going into the back room, which served as our bedroom. This tent is very spacious and tall enough for my 6’4” husband to walk around easily. We got two kid cots and a queen sized inflatable mattress in the back, and 2 of the large black/yellow storage bins from Costco and a suitcase in the front room. The pockets in each room were super helpful to prevent little things from getting lost. The storage hammock in the ceiling of the back room was perfect for a dim light at night. All the windows make for great ventilation, with easy to close zippers in case of rain. This tent is easy to set up. This tent is HUGE. For the price it’s most definitely worth it! The front porch/additional room is the size of a 6/7 person tent by itself and is very large, you could comfortably fit a queen mattress or two full size mattresses and still have some room. The main tent is like the size of a small bedroom. You have about 6 feet of head height and more than enough room to comfortably house two queen air mattress’s. It seems like it would be complicated to set up but it was actually pretty simple to figure out. I would recommend setting it up at home just to see how to do it before taking it out for the first time. Completely waterproof! It rained the whole entire night when we took it camping and not a DROP!! Great buy!

It was pretty easy to put up and take down. Don’t bother following the instructions, it’ll be easier if you just watch a video and learn to put it up and take it down more than once so you can get acquainted with it. For our first time it took us 30-40 mins to put up, this is our first time putting any type of tent up. Took maybe 20 mins after we learned how to do it without the instructions. Same 20 mins, maybe, to take down and put away.
As far as space, it’s very spacious. We haven’t used it to go camping yet, so can’t give a 100% full review on the space but as you can see from our pictures it held a twin and queen size air mattress along with a play pen. With still a lot of room to move around. Didn’t even use the front entrance for storage yet, but spacious in there too.

I am an avid hiker, camper, and wilderness backpacker and regularly organize camping events for as many as 45 participants. My family also will be growing to 4 (with a potential for a 5th coming in the near future), and so I wanted a larger tent to house two families comfortably with up to 10 members (4-6 of whom would be adults.) Tents I have purchased in the past were made by Sierra Designs, Big Agnes, MSR, REI, Columbia, and less expensive ones like Coleman, depending on the purpose of the trip.
The CORE 9 Extended Dome tent is one of my favorite, family-sized ones (although it has a few issues, such as a door that's mildly difficult to operate and a slight lack of ventilation for the hot summer days), and I was excited to purchase the CORE 11 Cabin Tent with Screen Room. Why? The ability to have the screen room allow for air to cool the main cabin, and for the kids to enjoy lounging safely away from mosquitoes. I was EXCITED! Alas, I ended returning the tent for a few reasons.
PROS
- Very large capacity (can hold up to 9 or 10 adults comfortably)
- Separate screen room whose mesh panels can be zipped closed, instantly turning that section...
