xianguitarist: I used this drill bit on an unfinished Les Paul guitar body. It created the perfect holes for the tailpiece studs to fit snugly into. Guitar geeks such as myself can appreciate accurately cut holes!!!

Jamie: This has been my go-to but now for about 3 years for drilling dowel holes for furniture joinery and also for Kreg Jig drilling. It stays sharp a very long time and the pilot point spur is perfectly centered (no wobbling during entry into the wood). I keep 2-3 around the shop at all times. Highly recommend

J Osborne: I bought four of these in different sizes and they're ok. Just ok - not "very good" or "great", but ok. I have no way to test but it looks to me like maybe the lowest grade "industrial" high speed steel like M50...they certainly are not very well finished and there are all kinds of pits and flaws in the surface of three of the four bits I got (not a big deal in the end but indicative of reality vs marketing). One of the bits is much better ground and finished than the others but is still on the low end of manufacturing quality. The brads are ok but not terribly well ground or even. I'm sure they vary a lot from bit to bit. It's very nice to have the 64ths available individually so I appreciate that a lot (wish they had a 7/64"...)

The 9/64" was unfortunately very much out of true and that was the one I wanted the most...bad enough to be unusable (for accuracy) and may as well use a good straight 5/32" instead since that is a closer finished hole in comparison...almost returned it for exchange but it wasn't worth the time and hassle. True and HonestTrue and Honest: Allows very clean and precise holes to be drilled in softwoods (tested on SPF), and the 23/64" diameter creates a perfectly snug fit for 3/8" hardwood dowels. Produces very little to no tearout on the holes.

The product is well machined. It arrived with a sharp edge, without visible burrs, bends, or nicks. The point is sharp, and well centered. It protrudes enough ahead of the spurs so that you can precisely center the drill holes without skidding.

I've tested a few times in a piece of pre-planed SPF, and tested the fit for a dowel. The photos show the front and back of my piece, and one of the holes filled with a 3/8" dowel (that has been glued and pared flush to the surface with a chisel). No visible space between dowel and hole.

The underside (second photo) of my test holes shows a minimal amount of tearout on the periphery, despite the workpiece being supported with a sacrificial piece clamped to its back. After trial and error to minimize tearout, I can recommend drilling until the leading point pokes through (before the wings/spurs do), and then finish the hole by drilling from the back side, aligned with the center hole.
