Sherry Darling: Autism is a complicated condition, and my identical twin grandsons each have different characteristics. This book is good for other members of the family too because it’s explanations are clear and helpful.

Marissa M Marez: I liked the way the story seemed relatable but would like a follow up story with a girl who is autistic

Tom & Vic B.: My husband and I have a child with ASD Level 1. We both appreciated the simple explanation of autistic behaviors that some people might have. We appreciated that it's trying to help people who are unfamiliar with autism understand a little better what they are seeing and be more patient with the child and his developmental struggles. However, we didn't think it was a book that should be read to a child.
Human beings are very complex, and even saying "my son has autism" or "my son has high functioning autism" doesn't capture who he is as a whole person. People say "When you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism" and I think that's very true, and other reviewers have pointed that out.
This book keeps sending the message "I" [the child with autism] "am helping other people learn to be more tolerant or patient," and while that's a nice message for an ADULT to ponder and act upon, I think that puts a huge burden on the child.
What happens on a day when mommy loses her patience with a particularly difficult behavior? Did the child with autism fail to teach mommy patience? What a terrible question for a child to ask themselves.

Thompson girl: As a mother with two high functioning autistic kids this book is a great way to help talk to them about who they are and some of the things they may feel or think. It's also great to help educate other kids about autism.

Meghan Verschoor: My son has autism and we bought this book to help explain to him and his sister about his diagnosis. My little guy was excited to read about the ways that the boy in the book is similar to him. Once he becomes more open with his friends about his autism I think this would make a great book to loan to his classroom for story time.

brianna: My son was diagnosed as being autistic with moderate ADHD when he was 11. This book was the best thing to explain to start the discussion on what being autistic meant. He loved it and now when people ask him about it he just says "it means my brain is uniquely wired".
