Callsign: Accomplished the task as required. Handle is a bit slippery, wearing leather work gloves solved that problem. Blade is reasonably sharp and made quick work of our oak project once we became familiar with working with a Japanese saw. Will definitely look into purchasing additional Japanese style wood working tools since this experience was a good one and convinced me that the Asian approach to precision wood cutting is a good one.

mr...bunbury: I was able to use this without scratching the rest if my piece despite a tight flush cut. Having inly one side with teeth made that clean cut much easier.

I'm Kenneth R. Wells, Esq. and I approve this message.: I purchased a Hampton Bay KAUP1260 Universal Panel from Dome Hepot. Neither the seller nor the manufacturer would tell me how to properly cut the engineered wood shelf. In fact, this is the response from Hampton Bay: "Unfortunately, we are not able to advise on how to cut the panel. We recommend speaking with a licensed contractor for further assistance with your inquiry." That's called no help!

Mind you, I needed to make a SINGLE cut to shorten the 'panel' by a mere 2.25 inches. I am NOT Norm Abram with access to 147 different Porter-Cable saws. ("Norm doesn't change saw blades. He changes saws!")

I wanted to purchase a manual saw to make this one cut. (Yes, I have measured twice! Thus, I plan to only cut once.) I didn't want to INVEST in an electric or battery saw. I figured there must be a hand saw with a proper blade available to neatly trim away a few inches of the unpainted end. The finished product is going under a desk and not on a fancy, finished cabinet. Still a neat and clean cut saw/blade would be appreciated.

I did some very basic research and selected this type of saw. Along with the use of the painter's tape trick, I got a wonderful smooth cut...

Rich R.: Saw is great for removing tenon on wood turning items.
Must keep your cuts straight, otherwise you'll pinch and possibly bend the blade.

Travis Holland: Nothing that cuts this quickly and aggressively has any business leaving such smooth and accurate results, and yet it does just that.

Most saws have what's called "set" to their teeth, meaning the teeth lean out slightly in order to cut a kerf that's wider than the rest of the blade, to reduce friction and binding. Unfortunately, that also allows them to deflect more when cutting, resulting cuts that are neither straight nor clean.

Flush cut saws like this, however, have zero set, meaning the teeth don't lean out and therefore cut a kerf that's the same width as the whole blade. That of course allows you to saw off excess dowel such that it's flush with the surface you hammered it into, but I've found that it also makes it great for making any sort of cuts that need to be perfectly straight.

As I own neither a table saw nor a bandsaw, I ended up using this little guy to cut a bunch of 3/4" plywood into strips in order to frame three 2'x2' pegboard panels, and while it was a lot of work, the results were simply amazing for a hand tool. I didn't even need to sand afterwards.

I'd highly recommend this saw to anyone and everyone who ever needs to cut things...

Dan: Purchased this to flush cut wood plugs and dowels on my woodworking projects and it has been a great quality tool for the price. Can get into smaller corners that only allow for 4 inch strokes and you can accurately but slowly flush cut in those situations.

In terms of other flush cut trim saws out there that I researched I couldn't find one in the comparable price range.

Have cut over 200 dowels and the teeth have not broken or dulled. The flex is great and has good tension to ensure you can get clean cuts everytime.
