Kieran J. Mcandrew: Released from Arkham Asylum, the Joker hires Jonny Frost as a driver so he can circulate through the seedy underbelly of Gotham City and reclaim what he is owed by Killer Croc, the Penguin and Harvey Dent.
Azzarello's character study of the Joker is compelling and, as narrated by Frost, we see the city subverted and laid bare to the criminal class. Batman's absence looks large over the city and the weight of anticipation makes his inevitable arrival feel like a catharsis.

NivNiv: The art style used is just top tier stuff, each pages has so much detail along with the story complimenting it all the way through, just the joker being joker but more for people who want a mature read

KANNAN C BKANNAN C B: The paperback issue of JOKER got delivered within two days. Bermejo's art is stunning for the most part, gorgeously painted pages with traditionally rendered ink and colour work, Bermejo brings Gotham to life with every panel.

jonathan whitelaw: I really liked this book but can recommend it to ADULTS ONLY.
The violence in general was pretty hefty but what set this book apart for me was the fact that Joker rapes a woman in the back of a car.
Try reading that again - Joker rapes someone in this comic book. Not implied rape, or an 'open for debate if he did or not', but an actual rape in the back seat of a car no less.
Personally, as a huge batman and comic book fan in general this is definitely a bridge too far for me. If i wanted sex in my comics there are other publications i would expect it to appear in, not a dc or marvel comic.

Joshua Rosenblum: An interesting, if not stellar work. As can be expected from Azarello who pens the outstanding "100 Bullets," this take on The Joker is less a superhero tale than a gritty film noir with some rather eccentric characters.
And it is noir.
Like its predecessor "Batman: Broken City," Gotham is the filth encrusted urban hell that breaks the big time dreams of the small time hustlers, scammers and assorted losers.
The story is told through the eyes of small-time gangster Johnny Frost who becomes enamored of The Joker, thinking that he can hitch his star to the Clown Prince as he violently tears through Gotham's underworld after his unexplained release from Arkham, looking to reestablish himself as the top criminal in the city.
But, true to the noir trope, Johnny realizes only too late that The Joker is not simply an uber-racketeer with a pretty smile, but rather he's got his own agenda understood only to him - that brings madness and destruction eventually to all who enter his orbit.
The characterization of The Joker is subtle because at first he just seems to be similar to Azzarello's reinterpretation of all the Rogue's Gallery as gangsters and molls....

David Swan: The Joker is an exceedingly difficult character to write and success has been rarely achieved. In order to capture the essence of The Joker a writer needs to descend into the far reaches of dark humor. The problem is that The Joker's psychology is meant to be so separated from accepted thinking that a normal, well adjusted writer finds it near impossible to arrive at that dark place and most of his `jokes' fall flat. It reminds me of why writers invariably fail to capture evil geniuses, because you have to be a genius to create believable dialogue like a genius. Another problem is that the comic Joker has developed such a cartoonish appearance with the elongated chin and purple pimp clothes that it's difficult to take him serious even when he's killing scores of people. It's like Jason and Michael Meyers. No one is scared of them because they're just cartoons. The more divorced from reality the less scary.
The movie The Dark Knight reinvented the Joker with a considerably toned down visual appearance and darker attitude. The Dark Knight had more than a few flaws, particularly in the scripting, but it positively nails The Joker who stole the show and helped the movie become...
