Bok Boy: Great story

Keith Sanderson: What can I say about a story and it’s location that are so close to my heart. Arriving from England in 1964, Bulawayo and the Matopos were my home during the 1960s, only 20 years later than the beautifully-told story of The Sun is Bright. I found, fell in love and married my wife in the Matopos. My first real job. My first child.
Working at Matopos Research Station as an agronomist, we were married in the REPS school chapel by the Cyrene Mission priest, Donald Bird. We lived for a while in a small cottage on the Matobo Police Camp next to the railway terminus and the Native Commissioner’s house, then semi-derelict. My wife’s parents, the Melvills, had a small farm next to the Woollendale Rifle Range and later ranched at Kezi.
In addition to this so-real story, my wife and I remember so many of the features described or mentioned in the book.
A wonderful step-back in time. I hope that Susan Hubert reads this commentary. keithsanderson@ledom.co.za

Futi Limbo: Being Rhodesian, I can say the author described scenes so well; Thoroughly enjoyable and greatly recommended. These books would make such a great TV serirs.

Lin F.: Loved it all but it plunged into a romance novel at the end. Typical tear jerker. I’m worried the other books will do this as well so am hesitant to try them

Susan Hubert's books bring the important memories of my love of Rhodesia back to me.
Everything, the use of funugalor, the description of the unique relationship between African and European, the setting of this story near Bulawayo, the description of the Matopos, Nyamandhlova, the Victoria Falls, and particularly the train journey tol the Falls from Bulawayo. Kindle Customer: Ms. Hubert has captured all the elements of really good historical fiction ... strong characters whose lives are based on true accounts of real people and who are woven into the fabric of all that is happening during that time period. I especially liked the references to the visit of the Royal family and all the preparations that were made. It would have been a true celebration after the devastating years of WWII.

Ros Mitchell: I loved reading this book which reminded me of my years growing up in Bulawayo. It brought back memories of many old familiar places I used to visit like the magnificent Matopos.

Sarah Tarascourt: Having read Susan Hubert's first book in this series (Sunrising) and thoroughly enjoyed that I was looking forward to the sequel and continuing the saga of the Craig family - and Susan did not disappoint me. I was engaged from the very beginning to the end and I now can't wait for the story to continue into modern day Zimbabwe. Susan Hubert's The Sun is Bright is set in Rhodesia in those years of development after the Second World War. She captures the optimism of life in an expanding Rhodesia - with those returning from the War slowly revealing their wartime experiences to the newly arrived immigrants escaping a difficult period in England and Europe and trying to rebuild their lives in a new and exciting country. Intertwined into their stories Susan continues the sage of the Craig family and associates from "Sunrising" with events in the first saga affecting the next generations. Despite this "The Sun is Bright" can be read as a stand alone novel although I would recommend reading "Sunrising" just for the pleasure of reading such a pleasant book. I am looking forward to reading the next chapter in this trilogy!
