Apollogold: Effective. Very sturdy. Good value for the money. Very tight. Requires a lot of working to loosen up. I suggest a little mink oil on the inside. Won’t hurt the gun and makes the pull have less friction.

Patrick D.: I have bought 3 of these holsters to date #1 was for a Browning Hipower. This fit snugly with little breaking in. My 1911 fitted also but a bit tight. #2 was for a colt 1911. The one I got was never going to fit as even the muzzle would not go i more than a couple of inches. Returned. #3 was a replacement order. This arrived and i used the plastic bag over the gun but it was still too tight to get the gun right in. In the past I have had to soak holsters to mould them so I put it in warm water for about 10 minutes then the gun in its zip lock bag went in fine. Left it all inlace over night and the holster is a perfect fit. Takes about 24 hours to dry completely. Finally wear the holster with the gun in and your natural movement through the day will leave you with a perfect fit and a smooth draw. Damn fine leather work!

John M.: Ordered the holster and mag carrier in vintage color for my Commander. Holster will fit a full-size 1911 so with my commander there is about 3/4 to an inch of holster past the end of the slide. No big deal since I also have a Govt size 1911 as well, now this same holster will fit both. Vintage color is pretty nice...mix of brown with some black. The leather is really thick and shaped for the gun already. Both pistol and magazines fit tight so there is going to be a break in period. Like others said...you could put a plastic bag around the gun and leave it inserted for a couple of days to stretch the leather but to me it's not too bad so I'm already carrying it all day. I'm sure in about a week or so it will be worked in and everything will slip in and out nicely while retaining the weapon and mags. Comfortable holster...got tired of kydex so going to start going back to leather on all my carry guns. If you shop around most holsters of this quality are pretty expensive so props to 1791 for being able to provide a quality leather holster at this price point. If I need another one I would not hesitate to order from them again and I probably will. Thinking about getting the matching...

Review:
I'm generally a kydex holster guy for practical reasons like retention and draw stroke reasons, but a 1911 deserves to wear leather every once in a while. I chose this holster because I was looking for a reasonably-priced open-top leather holster with specific features that are hard to find at lower price points: sweat guard, inward butt cant for concealment, and a deep brown color (most holsters in this price range come in either black or tan). I also picked up 1791's double mag pouch which I will review separately. I wanted to get a matching belt, but they do not offer one that matches this finish. It is nowhere near a color or finish match, but coordinates OK with my brown belt from Hank's.

Initial impressions: The overall construction of the holster is very good. It is sturdy and rigid leather with pretty good stitching with no fraying. The edges were burnished well. "Boning" is rough but not ugly. Finish is brushed on with those strokes showing up close, but from a foot away those disappear and it's a pretty...
